DisinformACTION! - Counter Climate Change Disinformation through youth E-participation is a 24-month project implemented by a consortium of 4 organizations (GEYC - Romania, RESOPA - France, MiHi - Latvia and EuroMuevete - Spain) with the general objective of fostering the ability of young people to identify online climate change disinformation and misinformation, while at the same time encouraging them to become active citizens in their local communities when it comes to issues related to climate and environment.

In all 4 countries 109 teachers were trained in the “Climate Change Ambassadors” method, which empowers young people by getting them to create digital communication campaigns raising awareness of the issues of climate change and fake news (More information about the teachers workshops). They set up 80 workshops with their students !

> In France, the method was implemented in the classrooms of almost 70 ITSRA students !
Their teachers  introduced  the method and made them debate about online disinformation. These students were also able to play roles in a short comedy-type workshop, and to imagine and prepare digital campaigns to talk about climate change and disinformation.

We hosted a bootcamp so we could exchange practices in order the method. It took place from September 13 to 16,  at ITSRA and ARENFIP in Clermont-Ferrand !

The 62 participants were able to meet each other through ice-breaking games and exchange views during participative workshops based on non-formal methods, involving teachers, students and professionals from the associations involved.

  • The welcome and first morning of workshops took place at ITSRA, RESOPA's local partner for this project. Everyone had the opportunity to get to know each other and analyze the results of the project, specially the campaigns that were made by the students.

  • During the next day, after some energizing games to heat up the crowd, the group worked on improving the method by dividing in subgroups to write about fighting disinformation on a daily basis with 3 approaches : what can we do as citizens, as students or teachers, and as online users.

  • After that, they worked on the dissemination of the project (a lot of ideas emerged!), and a collective assesment of the bootcamp and DisinformACTION.

  • Finally, they got to party during an « intercultural night », where all 4 countries were able to present their traditions, ways of living and culinary specialties. The tables were full of ocal food and the students did great shows to show some music and dances !

Few verbatims of french participants :

« I had fun and interesting conversations with other people of my age, and it was a way of improving my english. It was a great week-end ! »

« The bootcamp was an incredible experience of collaboration and learning. Participants from different countries came together to exchange best practices and enhance our teaching methods. The diverse perspectives from both students and teachers fostered creativity and deepened our understanding of disinformation. Through hands-on workshops, discussions, and shared experiences, we left with valuable insights and new techniques that we can apply in our respective countries. It was a truly enriching experience that highlighted the power of international collaboration.»

« It was really cool to exchange ideas and see how things are in different countries. The workshops were interactive and I loved how we could actually give our opinion. It wasn't just about learning, it was about debating and going further in the topic of climate change. I left feeling excited to use what I learned, and made friends from other Latvia, Romania and Spain. »

Special thanks to ITSRA for their help and the hosting of this event, and a huge THANK YOU to each participant of the project !
